Baltika decided to register the Platina Latina brand logo in ICGS classes 32 and 33, which correspond to beer and strong alcohol, which includes vodka, rum, bitters, alcoholic cocktails and other beverages. This information is contained in the Rospatent database, Vedomosti noted.

Baltika plans to produce alcoholic cocktails

Previously, Baltika only produced beer, including non-alcoholic and fruit beers, and non-alcoholic energy drinks (all of this belongs to class 32 of “beer”).

According to Vadim Drobiz, director of the Research Center for Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets, Baltika could be interested in the alcoholic cocktails segment. It has tripled in the last three years: up to 200 million liters in terms of volume and more than 40 billion rubles in monetary terms in 2023.

  • Baltika is owned by the Danish holding company Carlsberg Group. In March 2022, Carlsberg announced its withdrawal from the Russian market. The company’s losses from this step amounted to $630 million in August 2022.
  • In June 2023, the Danish manufacturer announced that it had signed an agreement to sell its Russian business, but did not reveal who the buyer was. A month later, Vladimir Putin signed a decree according to which the shares of Danone and Baltika were placed under the control of the Federal Property Management Agency.
  • Carlsberg announced the termination of agreements with Baltika in October 2023. The company subsequently accused Russian authorities of stealing its business, but the Ministry of Finance rejected these accusations. The company also sued and lost.
  • In December 2023, Russian Baltika attempted to protect the company’s brands in countries that Russia considers friendly. However, Baltika representatives did not go to court, but to the presidential administration.
