The number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Moscow at the beginning of March this year amounted to 908,000, an increase of 6.3% compared to March 2023. This was reported by the press service of the economic and policy complex. property and land relations of the Moscow government.

The sphere of individual entrepreneurship (IP) is developing more actively: during the year, the number of these entities increased by 11%, up to 427 thousand at the beginning of March 2024. The number of legal entities reached 481 thousand, increasing by 2.4% compared to March 2023.
In what industries do small and medium-sized businesses operate in Moscow?
- a third of SMEs, or 293 thousand entities, are dedicated to commerce; legal entities most often prefer wholesale trade, and individual entrepreneurs – retail trade;
- more than 12%, or 112.5 thousand subjects, work in the professional, scientific and technical field;
- almost 10% – 86.1 thousand – under construction.
According to the Moscow Department of Economic Policy and Development, among industries, the largest increase was recorded in education: the increase in SMEs over the year was 13.3%. In trade, their number increased by almost 10%, in administrative activities – by 8.4%.
Among legal entities, the areas of greatest growth were transportation and storage (up 10.5%), administrative activities (up 7.8%), and information and communications (up 5%). Among individual entrepreneurs, the greatest growth is observed in commerce (17.5%), education (15.2%) and construction (10.6%).
According to the SME registry, at the beginning of March almost 2.3 million employees worked in this sector. Over the year, their number increased by 2.5%. For legal entities the growth was 2.2% and for individual entrepreneurs, 7.6%.
The total number of small and medium-sized businesses as of December 10, 2023 was 6.31 million compared to 5.97 on the same date in 2022 (an increase of almost 6%).
