A group of Russian astronomers, led by the head of the Astrospace Center of the Lebedev Institute of Physics, put forward the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a lunar telescope as part of a study on the prospects for the development of subterahertz astronomy in Russia. According to their plans, such a telescope would be able to provide high-resolution images of black holes and other space objects.
Currently, there are no telescopes in Russia that can operate at frequencies above 100 GHz. The proposal also includes the possibility of placing antennas in permanently shadowed craters or circumpolar regions of the Moon. Such a lunar observatory would be able to work with ground-based telescopes and space observatories to obtain complex data.
