Ball lightning has always been a mystery to scientists. Recently, Russian physicists conducted experiments in the laboratory and found that these mystical phenomena may be related to vapor clouds forming from the ground. Vladimir Bychkov, a leading researcher at Moscow State University, shared this interesting finding.

Researchers suggest that the process of ball lightning formation begins with ordinary lightning hitting the ground and vaporizing part of the soil, creating a void in it. The soil vapor quickly solidifies to form a ball that shoots out of the ground at the speed of sound, but is then slowed by the atmosphere so that the lightning appears to appear out of nowhere.

Therefore, ball lightning is a balloon filled with ground vapor and glows depending on the temperature. Its crust consists of frozen oxides found in the soil and can withstand gas pressure. If the ball was created by negative lightning, it could float above the ground by being repelled from its negatively charged surface.
