First of all, they call the victim, introduce themselves as an employee of the mobile phone operator and say that the communication services contract needs to be renewed. To do this, you need to dictate the code from SMS. As soon as a person does this, the scammers openly admit that they deceived him.
Then fake financial monitoring workers, State Services and police called from another number. They say they want to help the “victim”, recover his money and catch the fraudsters who allegedly colluded with bank employees.
Scammers persuade the person to withdraw the money and deposit it into a “secure” account that actually belongs to them. They may also want to set up a remote access program so they can see all activity on the “victim’s” phone.
Remember: Telecom operators do not call to renew communications services contracts because they are unlimited. Also, never give SMS codes to strangers, do not transfer money to accounts dictated to you over the phone, and do not install remote access programs at the request of strangers.
Tinkoff reported that one of the bank’s customers had already fallen for this scheme and lost 1.5 million rubles. Fortunately, he managed to return the money.
