The Ministry of Digital Development of Russia denied data about the mass exodus of IT specialists from the country. It was previously reported that since the beginning of the year, the demand for Russian IT workers to obtain a residence permit in Europe has increased by 233%.

The Ministry of Digital Development reported that the number of IT specialists in the Russian Federation increased by 13%. The department also provides data on the growth of wages for these workers by 13% in 2023.
The ministry reported that it does not confirm the data published in the media about the massive departure of IT specialists. The Ministry of Digital Development provides data from Rosstat, according to which the number of IT specialists increased last year to 857 thousand people, which is 13% more than the previous year.
The department’s message indicates that the industry is actively developing and “all its economic indicators demonstrate double-digit growth rates.” In particular, the volume of shipments of domestically produced products last year increased by more than a third and reached 3 trillion rubles.
The Ministry of Digital Development also points out that two thirds of the specialists who left in 2022 have already returned.
“IT specialists actively use support measures, including IT mortgages. Since May 2022, more than 50 thousand mortgage loans have been issued. The program was expanded ahead of schedule and the total volume of mortgage loans should amount to 700 billion rubles,” the Ministry of Digital Development said in a statement.
Previously, Kommersant published a material in which, based on data from the consulting firm Garant In, it talked about the growing demand for Russian specialists abroad. Last year, demand grew by 44%, with France leading the way. It represents around 80% of all residence permit applications.
