I watched the first episode of the new Russian series “Chikatilo’s Shadow.” Everything is ambiguous here

The premiere of the new game “Shadow of Chikatilo” took place.

Technically, this is not even a new series, but the third season of the popular Chikatilo. This is closely connected with past seasons and the connection between the Angarsk maniac and the famous serial killer from the forest belts.

We have already watched the first episode and are ready to tell you what we expect from the project authored by Sarik Andreasyan.

Another sad milestone in the history of Russia

What is the series about?: due to his inherent cunning, resourcefulness and access to police archives and databases, Poptsov has been subject to punishment for many years, terrifying the entire Irkutsk region. He gradually turns into a semi-mystical character, an elusive demon from whom there is no escape.

And yet, the operatives led by Kovalev, having gone through a series of difficult life situations, will follow the killers, stopping the terrible conveyor belt of death.

History in a new project continuation of the original game’s plot. After the relevant authorities caught Chikatilo, a new maniac rapist appeared in the Irkutsk region. According to reports, he already has 86 murders to his name, and another 50 are trying to contact Poptsov.

As before, the killer himself is a spectator, known in advance. We succeeded in the way the police searched and caught him. Almost all the actors from “Chikatilo” have returned to their videos, and they continue the work, but in new locations.

Based on the first episode, it is still unclear how exactly the events will take place. However, we already know that Kovalev and Lipyagin will soon take part. These are some of the main characters. In general, the images of the heroes have not changed and have not been transformed in any way. The actors themselves still make the basis for a detective film: neutralwithout causing emotion.

However, it is still interesting to watch the story unfold. Although the authors immediately show us the maniac, they do not reveal all their cards at once. How did an employee of the “authorities” come to such a life? How did you choose the victim? What were his motives and desires? Hoping that all this will appear in the future. But now there is only a certain collective image of a serial killer, which still needs to be worked on.

There is no need to wait for the exact accuracy of the project. It was based on what the authors themselves said. However, there were too many artistic digressions: from individual investigators to victims of a maniac. The interpretation of events here is too free, and you need to be prepared for this in advance.

It seems that the creators of the game decided to take as a basis just the maniac and some specific details from his biography, but the rest is just a fruit (Sometimes) the imagination of the screenwriters, who for some reason contributed to the transfer of former heroes into a new story. But why? Why couldn’t I log in to other characters’ accounts? This would freshen up the project.

And yes. Why was the decision made to change the maniac’s surname from Popkova to Poptsova? I have no answer or understanding to this.

The atmosphere is conveyed well, but there are questions

What Sarik and his team really succeeded in was the period of perestroika in the eastern atmosphere after the recognition of the USSR.

You literally see how society is changing, how restructuring is taking place in the police (the future police). During this period, you can settle in from the first minutes, the interiors are well designed, there are a lot of details. In general, respect to the directors.

But before that everything sterile. There are no popular images, locations or even dialogues. Everything was shot according to a standard template, from which they tried not to deviate even a step.

As for the musical accompaniment, it is simply normal here. I can’t single out anything specific, nothing comes together in my head. But at the same time, specifically in the series, the soundtracks fit well and important conditions are maintained. And, of course, the OST from the first two seasons, hinting that this is all one solid story, and not two completely different ones.

“Shadow of Chikatilo” has its pros and cons. It’s up to you to decide whether you should pay attention to the project.

However, it is already clear that he built it according to the same story as Chikatilo. If you didn’t like the original series, then there’s nothing to catch here. It almost completely copies the original script and follows the same rails.

Overall, as a standard detective story, this series works. The story is intriguing, but can the authors continue to maintain this standard? There is a proposal.
