The sports doctor explained that just 2.5 hours, or 150 minutes, of physical activity a week is enough to reduce the risk of premature death and non-communicable chronic diseases. This is the main cause of disability and premature death among Russians today due to poor lifestyle choices.

These diseases include diabetes, cancer, hypertension, stroke and heart disease. However, these risks can be reduced: cancer 17%, type 2 diabetes 3.5%, arterial hypertension 24-26%, osteoporosis 23%, premature death 21-23%.

“Exercising 150 to 300 minutes a week reduces the risk of cancer by 17%. Additionally, studies show that people with higher levels of physical activity have a 17% lower risk of developing depression,” said Polyaev.
