The main innovation is the improved Pass mode, which allows you to see real objects around the user without removing the helmet. This brings the device’s capabilities closer to the premium mixed reality headset Apple Vision Pro.

“The crossover has been updated to include higher clarity, improved color rendering, exposure, contrast and dynamic range to match the user’s real-world environment. The improvements make it easier to see fine details and text without removing the headset. The transition becomes less grainy in low light, the company noted in a blog post.

Despite the improvements, the Quest 3’s Switching feature doesn’t yet compare to the Apple Vision Pro’s spatial mode due to its much higher screen resolution.

But it’s important to note that the Quest 3 is significantly cheaper than the Vision Pro ($3,499 versus $499) and already has a pretty good Switch. The cheap Quest 2 still loses in this component and there is no improvement in this regard yet.
