This is against the background of the recent conflict with Apple, whose Beeper mini service was able to turn on iMessage features on Android smartphones and was blocked by the vendor who founded the aggregator, according to an unnamed knowledgeable Bloomberg source. Eric Migicovsky said that there is practically no clear standard for chats, and Beeper’s goal is to create one.
The amount of the agreement will not be officially disclosed, but according to the source, Automattic paid 125 million dollars to acquire Beeper. Within the scope of the agreement, the new application that came out of beta testing is cross-platform and free. Later, developers will add a paid subscription with additional features.
“There are almost no open standards for chat, and we want to create one by connecting to existing chat networks,” said Eric Migicovski.
