Scientists from Tyumen State University have proposed a method that can increase the production of high viscosity oil by 20-40%. They proposed optimizing the process of cyclic exposure of water vapor to an oil reservoir. This is especially important for Russia, where it is necessary to increase the efficiency of hydrocarbon extraction from underground formations.

This method involves cyclically injecting hot steam into the formation, then trapping it for heat exchange with the oil and the formation, followed by the start of oil production. Scientists have developed a way to determine the parameters of this process by taking into account the movement of steam underground. They found that the thickness of the formation, the proportion of steam in the mixture, and steam consumption had the greatest impact on the efficiency and duration of the process.

These discoveries could help optimize oil production and increase Russia’s energy security. Scientists used mathematical modeling and numerical methods to create a simplified model that accounts for changes in water density with changes in temperature and pressure. In the future, they plan to improve this model to make it more accurate and useful for industrial needs.
