It was with Tronsmart Onyx Ace that I got acquainted with wireless sound. The appearance of the Pro version for me could not pass, as they say, for. I am happy with everything! The headphones have improved and, in my opinion, claim to be the new success of the previous version.
The headphones are more for Android device users as the AptX Adaptive codec is available with them. For iPhone, the headphones are suitable as a replacement for AirPods, completely. Huawei phone users will find the headphones to be quiet. The microphone does not depend on the phone used. If I used Apple products, I would choose Tronsmart. I like the company (not all models, but Onyx Ace Pro turned out to be worthy).
The model in the review is a full TWS, that is, they work independently of each other and can be used separately.
Headphone Description
The packaging of the headphones, as it was two years ago (in 2020), has remained the same. On the reverse, information about the model is available: there is AptX Adaptive, low latency in gaming mode, IPX5 moisture protection, and a dynamic driver in each earbud.

By removing the cover, you can see the earphones and the case; everything is the same as in the previous version. I didn’t find the previous version, which is strange, since I liked it a lot. There were flaws in the old one, but they were fixed in the new one, thanks, in many ways, to Bluetooth 5.2.

What’s in the box: earphones, case, instructions, warranty card, and USB-C USB-A cable for charging:

The case opens easily, there is something akin to stress in the flick of a finger to open the lid and a click, but it quickly disappears as soon as the hand reaches for the earpiece; it’s not that easy to get it out. On the inside of the lid you can see the fccid.io number, but the teardown photos are blurred so you can see the names of the items on the board. It remains to believe the manufacturer’s word that the Qualcomm QCC3040 audio controller is used (which replaced the inexpensive and popular QCC3020).

Under the control of QCC3040, the sound has improved, in particular in the case of the models of the Onyx Ace family.
Of the functional elements in the case, there is a USB-C input for charging and a button for resetting the headphones to factory settings.
Below is the headset from all angles.

When used, the indicator light does not flash, so you don’t need to worry about the “traffic light” in your ears.

The headset setting is shown below. Considering that ear cushions are not provided in the model, the perception of bass and volume directly depends on the depth of the seat: the deeper, the louder and louder the bass. Two years ago, I did not pay attention to this, but now I want more volume (on a Huawei phone, everything works fine with iPhone and Android), if I do not plug the headphones deeper or I am in a crowded room.

Tronsmart Onyx Ace Pro earphones use a 13mm polymer dynamic driver.

Loading and Unloading
The headphones are charged, as indicated in the instructions, in 2 hours at 569 mAh (2.83 Wh):

The charge is enough for a long time, I listened to them for 8 hours a day for 3 days. I even somehow got tired of downloading and just let it play at 50% volume.
When discharging, a female voice is heard asking to recharge, and then, also imperceptibly, a muffled sound is emitted and one of the earphones turns off.
headphone monitoring
Management is not quite standard, like most headsets:
- There is no automatic shutdown of the earphones when they land in a case
- Double tap: start/end playback (talk)
- Long press 2s left/right earphone – previous/next song (cancel incoming call)
- Left/right earphone one touch: volume down/increase
- Triple click the right earphone: call the voice assistant
- Triple click the left earphone: switch to game mode
These headphones are not compatible with the Tronsmart app, so you cannot make any changes to its control.
Headphone features
Noise cancellation on the headphones is only passive, and given the lack of ear pads, it’s pretty much non-existent. When you wear headphones without music, you can clearly hear what’s going on around you. It is important that the volume is sufficient to level out external noise. In the Huawei phone it is not enough, in the iPhone and Android it is enough.
In the previous version of the headset, there was a stuttering issue at intersections near a large set of traffic lights. This is not the case in the new version of the model. Everything is as it should be with modern representatives of the product range: Bluetooth 5.2, minimal delay, good reception range.
The sound will not go out at a distance of 15 m, through two walls of the apartment. In terms of reception range, Tronsmart Onyx Ace Pro also behaves like its more expensive counterparts.
There is no lag when playing in normal mode. Play comfortably. However, there is one “but”: the sound, even in games, at the lowest bass sounds heavy, the medium and high basses do not allow it to become clumsy. It turns out that the movements of rivals in PUBG Mobile are heard, but not loud and brief, but languid and daring. Given the correct fit in the ears (deeper in the eardrum), it is pleasant and unusual to play at the same time. The experience is not like that of other models of wireless headphones. I like it.
The recording of conversations is good, the microphones work perfectly – there are no strange noises from a six-lane highway in two directions.
Listening to music
Tronsmart Onyx Ace Pro has a sound playback function: with a Huawei smartphone, the sound was at full volume, but I wanted it louder, the deeper setting of the headphones practically saved, in quiet places and the like, the volume it was enough; on the iPhone, the sound was louder, you didn’t have to turn it all the way up, but the lower bass was more like “bucket” than on Huawei. In general, the sound corresponds to the price of the headphones, as I understand it.
This sound position relative to smartphone brands is due to a different decoding of the AAC codec – it’s better on iPhones. In my listening to the sound on Huawei, I liked it better. Compared to another model from Tronsmart, Onyx Prime, the sound in Onyx Ace Pro is more interesting: tight and dark bass with good mids.
Otherwise, the headphones in the review are a good representative of the segment. In the next sale, the headphones will cost the same as the first model before the sale. As for me, such a small price of a proven brand will find its buyers.
conclusion
Once again, the sound and the price match. Plus, a modern audio driver, AptX Adaptive support, and IPX5 protection. No overpayment for proximity sensors, noise reduction, multipoint, and wireless charging. If a modern codec and driver is enough for you, then Tronsmart Onyx Ace Pro will suit your needs.
The current price of new items from Tronsmart can be found in the official store. The price is quite democratic, I mean, given that for about the same amount I took Tronsmart Onyx Ace exactly two years ago – my first wireless headphones.
In particular, before the Summer Sale, I have vendor coupons for 388 rubles, which makes the price of Bluetooth 5.2 headphones, which will allow you to listen to music via the LC3 codec, very, very attractive. I am not sure if this codec will be available in Tronsmart Onyx Ace Pro.
