In the first quarter of the year, 52% of urban residents of Russia used subscriptions to various online cinemas. This is a new record for this type of site: the figure is 5% higher than in the previous quarter, according to a GfK study.

The previous record for subscriptions among city residents was 49%, this is the figure for the first quarter of 2023. In the first three months of this year, the share of paying subscribers also increased to 38% of residents of the city, a historical maximum, notes GfK.
Most of the large platforms (of the top five) managed to increase the number of subscribers. Kinopoisk (23.1% of the city’s inhabitants) retains its leading position in this indicator. In terms of the number of people paying for subscriptions, the service also takes first place with 18.6%.

- “Kinopoisk” – 23.1% of city residents;
- Wink: 13.1% of city residents compared to 9.7% the previous quarter;
- ivi – 10.7% in the first quarter compared to 9.5% in the previous quarter;
- Okko: 8.1% of city residents
- HOME – 2.1% of urban residents compared to 1.3% the previous quarter.
The most popular online cinemas that work on a subscription basis are still among Muscovites and residents of St. Petersburg. 58% of residents of these cities use subscriptions.
The GfK survey involved 7.5 thousand respondents aged 16 to 55 years living in Russian cities, including small towns with a population of up to 100 thousand people.
In 2023, the turnover of the Russian online cinema market grew by 45%, according to data from TelecomDaily. If in 2022 the total revenue from video services from subscriptions and advertising amounted to 55.8 billion rubles, at the end of last year the figure reached 80.9 billion rubles.
