Tesla and Baidu have developed a system for launching a service with unmanned taxis, a source told CarNewsChina.
China prohibits Tesla from using data collected within the country to train Autopilot in the US, which is needed to launch robotaxis. Therefore, Tesla decided to talk to a major robotaxi development company inside China. In this case, it is Baidu, with which Tesla has been collaborating for a long time.
In addition, Baidu has a license to operate robotaxis at Daxing Airport in Beijing. And in March of this year, Baidu launched the first 24-hour unmanned taxi in Wuhan, driving without a driver.
The publication’s sources report that Tesla plans to launch a robotaxi service in China earlier than in the United States. Elon Musk discussed this issue at a meeting with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang.
