According to some posts from Reddit and X users, Spotify is removing access to lyrics for free accounts. It looks like this feature will work on a limited basis for non-paying users. with just a few months of access, no syncing, and auto-scrolling lyrics.

To: TechCrunchA company spokesperson said Spotify features may change periodically and removing access to lyrics was merely a “test.” Right now, There is no official statement from the company It confirms that the feature will indeed be limited, but some users have already posted screenshots from the platform showing a warning about this limitation.

It’s also worth noting that the official Spotify Brazil website does not yet mention lyrics as a special feature of the Premium plan.

Spotify recently announced that it has reached more than 600 million active users on the platform, of which more than 236 million are subscribers. This means a growth of approximately 15% in the subscriber base in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year.

Despite this, the company’s revenue fell short of market analysts’ expectations and remained at 3.67 billion euros (about R$ 20 billion at current prices), while the forecast was expected to reach 3.72 billion euros (about R$ 20.3 billion).

Perhaps that’s why the music streaming platform is considering limiting access to lyrics on free accounts as a way to force these users to subscribe to the Premium plan.

Currently, the app already has some restrictions on free accounts, displaying ads, limiting audio quality, limiting track skipping, forcing random playback, etc.
