Experts from Kazan State Agricultural University found that buckwheat, white mustard and oilseed radish used in agriculture can significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from soil. This means that these plants help the soil become less harmful to the environment.
Researchers at the university’s agricultural biotechnopark found that using these plants as green manure reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 25.6-26.7% compared to uncultivated land. This significant reduction in emissions gives agriculture a new environmental importance.
The project is carried out jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tatarstan and our colleagues from Samara. One of its key aspects is the creation of the first carbon calculator for agricultural enterprises in Russia. This will help estimate the carbon footprint level, which will be an important step in the development of organic agriculture.
