The incident caused widespread controversy, highlighting the unexpected connection between organized crime and popular culture.

According to Tachikawa police, Saito broke into a private home in December 2022 and 29 items, including 25 valuable Pokemon cards, were stolen from there.

During the investigation, Hidefumi Kuboshita, who was involved in the robbery but had no connection to the yakuza, was also arrested.

This case is just one of many highlighting the growing problem of commercial card theft, which has become the target of increased attention from criminals around the world since 2020.

Real robberies are organized by tunneling into stores for cards, which in some cases can cost up to $200.
