According to the minister cited by TASS, production at the company will begin this year. Manturov clarified that the plant was moved a long time ago.
In 2022, Japanese automaker Toyota suspended car assembly at its plant in the Russian Federation due to the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. Later that year, the company closed the facility due to sanctions.
As a result, the plant itself became the property of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (the main legal entity is Aurus).
It was previously reported that the Russian manufacturer Aurus, together with a foreign partner, would produce business class cars at the former Toyota plant.
Now Aurus occupies places in Yelabuga. The manufacturer is preparing to launch an electric motorcycle of its own design, Aurus Merlon, for sale in 2025. According to Denis Manturov, pre-orders are already open.
