The film marathon dedicated to the cult director David Cronenberg arrives from August 18 to 23 at the Quattro Fontane cinema in Rome, at the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema in Milan and at the Ambrosio in Turin. For the occasion, the films will be shown in the original version with subtitles.
The movie marathon includes “Rabid – Blood Thirst,” a 1976 cult in which a young woman turns into an insatiable vampire after undergoing a skin graft; the restored version of “Crash,” which rejects the theme of mutation from a JG Ballard novel in which car accident survivors develop a sadomasochistic drive; the body horror “Bread – The evil brood”, set in a clinic of horrors; “Scanners”, featuring protagonists of individuals endowed with telepathic powers with a fatal outcome. And then again “Videodrome”, an undisputed cult in which a mass media hallucination becomes a metaphor for the television civilization of the 1980s; “La mosca”, with actor Jeff Goldblum grappling with a monstrous melodrama with sci-fi hues; “The Naked Meal”, a sophisticated paranoid delirium that pays tribute to William S. Burroughs’ novel of the same name.
Two films with Viggo Mortensen (also in “Crimes of the Future” with actresses Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart): “A History of Violence”, a noir thriller reflecting on the theme of identity, and “A Dangerous Method”, which follows the turbulent relationship between psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung (Michael Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud (Mortensen), and Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley).
The marathon ends on Tuesday, August 23 with “The Assassin’s Promise”, a thrilling and powerful noir set between the Russian underworld, always starring Viggo Mortensen along with Naomi Watts and Vincent Cassel, and “Maps to the Stars”, a harsh critic of the world of entertainment and the film industry, masterfully played by Mia Wasikowska, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson and Julianne Moore, who won La Palma Best Actress at the 67th Cannes Film Festival for this role.
The exhibition “La Nuova Carne”, dedicated to the cinema of David Cronenberg, will also be set up in the cinema Quattro Fontane in Rome and in Milan in the exhibition space on the ground floor of Anteo Palazzo del Cinema. The exhibition collects a total of 40 drawn works (illustrations, one-page comics) created by a wide selection of the most representative Italian artists and cartoonists in tribute to the Canadian director and his films, which will be distributed between the two halls. The exhibition is an original artistic production, co-produced by COMICON and Marco Lucchetti Art Gallery of Lugano.
