Experts from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI) explained that the satellites will be equipped with various instruments to monitor processes in the ionosphere (a layer of the Earth’s atmosphere from 50 to 2000 km above the surface). These devices will collect data on free electrons, ions and other particles produced by ultraviolet radiation and cosmic rays.

The satellites will be sent into orbit in pairs, moving synchronously with the Sun to effectively monitor various sectors of near-Earth space. Data collected by electronic probes is expected to help scientists better understand the impact of solar activity and geomagnetic storms on our planet and its technical systems such as navigation and communications.

These satellites will also be equipped with new coronagraph telescopes that will help scientists detect solar plasma emissions early and predict their effects on Earth’s ionosphere. This is an important step in ensuring the safety of both space missions and modern technologies on Earth.
