Following the agreement with 49 US states and the District of Columbia (excluding Florida), carriers will pay a total of $10.2 million. The agreement also calls for changes to advertising practices over the next five years.

This means that “unlimited” data can only be advertised without unexpected restrictions if it is truly unlimited. Similarly, “free” phone offers should clearly state all costs and requirements. The agreement also requires transparency about incentives for switching operators and claims for savings compared to competitors.

The issue of refunds to customers still remains unclear.
