While the game’s multiplayer mode requires a PSN account, this is not required in the single-player campaign. At the same time, the reason for the cancellation is still unclear, especially considering that the game is more “customized” than a single playthrough.

A similar situation occurred in Helldivers 2. After the game was available in non-PSN regions for several months, Sony felt the need for a PSN connection. Limited sales in countries that do not support PSN after Steam. Backlash from gamers forced Sony to reverse its decision to mandatorily link PSN, but restrictions on sales on Steam remained.

Neither Sony nor Valve has made an official comment.
