The robot, called HybriBot, can handle seeds from a variety of plants and serves as a biodegradable tool for reforestation. Researchers have already tested this successfully with tomato, chicory and fireweed seeds (a favorite flower of bees); all the seeds sprouted. A patent application was made for the invention.
HybriBot is IIT Bionic Soft Robotics Laboratory’s latest development inspired by living organisms, especially plants.
This robot combines natural (oat hairs) and artificial ingredients (seed capsule). The feathers respond to moisture in the air by rotating and accumulating energy as the capsule moves along the ground. The movement continues until the seed reaches a suitable space in which to germinate.
The capsule weighs only 60 mg and is made of flour with a special coating added to protect it from moisture. You can place seeds of various plants and foods inside.
The environmental friendliness of the robot is due to the use of biodegradable materials. It is also harmless to animals. Tests were conducted with different types of seeds and soil; The result was positive everywhere.
