The launch was broadcast on the company’s YouTube channel. The reusable New Shepard spacecraft was launched from the Corn Ranch site near Van Horn in West Texas.

On board were six people: American businessman Mason Angel, founder of the French brewery Brasserie Mont Blanc Silver Chiron, computer programmer Kenneth Hess, retiree Carol Schaller, pilot Gopi Thakura and Ed Dwight, former captain of the US Air Force. 90 years old.

The report says that in 1961, Dwight was selected by US President John F. Kennedy as the first black astronaut candidate, but he never became part of NASA’s astronaut corps.

The entire flight took about 11 minutes. The capsule with passengers reached the Karman line, the limit between the Earth’s atmosphere and outer space, at an altitude of 100 km, where it remained for about three minutes, after which it made a soft landing using a parachute system.

This is New Shepard’s sixth crewed suborbital mission and the first since an accident in September 2022. The launch vehicle then caught fire before reaching orbit. The capsule was released thanks to the backup safety system and successfully descended to the ground using parachutes.
