News of plans to end support for Steam, amid Tesla’s significant investment in integrating video games into its in-car entertainment system, surprised many.

Tesla officially launched a beta version of its Steam app on the new Model S and Model X in late 2022, allowing owners to play high-end games directly in their cars.

However, the company has now given up on this feature. Tesla said the following in its letter to new Model S and Model X owners:

“Tesla is updating the gaming PC in your Model X and your vehicle no longer supports Steam games. “All other entertainment and app functions will remain unchanged.”

The current owners do not appear to be affected by this change.
