Senators Ron Wyden and Ed Markey called on the US Federal Trade Commission to investigate. “Not only have automakers failed to inform consumers about their actual practices, but many companies have been misleading consumers by failing to comply with industry voluntary privacy rules for over a decade,” they wrote in their letter.

A decade ago, these automakers adopted the Consumer Privacy Principles, the nation’s voluntary law that requires data to be shared only with a court order.
