A 200% tax on wines from NATO countries would be prohibitive. This was stated by the head of the Federal Customs Service of Russia, Maxim Chmora, according to TASS.
Chmora noted that the economic effect of selling products with such duties is only possible with very high margins.
The relevant departments are discussing the issue of increasing import duties on wines from “hostile” countries. The Russian Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers had already submitted the corresponding proposal.
Currently, duties on wines from “hostile” countries are 20%, but not less than $1.5 per liter.
