A key part of the Breakthrough project is the innovative fast neutron reactor BREST-OD-300. In 2023, significant progress was achieved by completing the concreting of the reactor shaft structures and the installation of the base plate at the ODEK site.
This project aims to create a new technological platform with a closed nuclear fuel cycle, solving the problems of handling and storage of spent nuclear fuel.
For the first time in world practice, a nuclear power plant with a “fast” reactor and a closed nuclear fuel cycle will be built on a single site. This system will reduce dependence on external energy sources by enabling almost autonomous operation.
