The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) warned that the procedure for traveling abroad for Russians will be much more complicated. The problem of inconsistency of information in foreign passports has an “avalanche” character, says ATOR Vice President Artur Muradyan.

“The letter “ё” in international passports, the place of birth indicated in accordance with the Soviet names of settlements, the peculiarities of typewritten transcription and similar problems are increasingly becoming grounds for confiscation of international passports at the border “. Muradyan said, quoted on the association’s website.
The expert believes that tourists born before 1991 may have problems with internal control due to discrepancies in the indication of the place of birth in domestic and foreign passports, where the place of birth is usually indicated in less detail or with the old name .
“For example, in Yekaterinburg they have already confiscated a passport on which “Yekaterinburg” was written instead of “Svedlovsk,” said the ATOR vice president, adding that passports will most likely be checked even more carefully in the near future. .
Tourists were recommended to more carefully check their passports (domestic and foreign) and, in case of doubt, contact the territorial authorities of the Ministry of the Interior.
It should be noted that representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs must correct technical errors themselves when submitting the application, while the validity period of the passport will remain the same.
