RTVI reports that Apple refused to pay Kaspersky Labs a reward for vulnerabilities discovered in iOS in 2023.

Then the company’s specialists discovered a major vulnerability called “Operation Triangulation”, which rotates attackers by collecting user data and transferring it to special servers. According to the Apple Security Bounty, the payout for such detection reaches $1 million.

We discovered zero-day and zero-click vulnerabilities, transferred all the information to Apple, and did a useful job. Essentially, we reported their vulnerability and they had to pay a bug bounty. We don’t need compensation for this, but there is a practice of such results from large charity companies.

Apple refused to pay us, even to a charity, citing internal policies, without explanation. Considering how much information we read to them and finally proactively did it, it’s unclear why they made this decision.

— Dmitry Galov, head of the Russian research center of Kaspersky Lab

Apple previously reported that vulnerabilities CVE-2023-32434 and CVE-2023-32435 occur for all versions of iOS released before iOS 15.7. They have already been corrected with the guidance of the Kaspersky Lab employees who found them. [RTVI]
