Currently, former employees of OpenAI and Google DeepMind have published an open letter warning about the threat of AI and the lack of oversight of companies working on enabling technologies.
They believe there are a number of risks we face with the development of AI. For example, manipulation and disinformation, as well as loss of control over autonomous people, which, as the letter states, could lead to the extinction of humanity.
These are the measures being taken in accordance with those who signed the letters. They concern the technology itself and the companies that belong to it:
• Avoid entering into agreements that significantly criticize risk issues.
• Offer an anonymous process for employees to communicate risk concerns that can be forwarded to the board, regulators, and independent organizations with relevant expertise.
• Under a culture of containing open criticism while firmly protecting trade secrets.
• Avoid retaliating against employees who publicly disclose risky personal information after other processes have failed.
In total, the letter is supported by 13 people, including 7 former and 4 current OpenAI employees, 1 former and 1 current Google DeepMind employee.
OpenAI threatened employees to lose capital under the president for speaking out and forced them to sign a non-disclosure agreement that prohibits any criticism.
