Scientists note that current methods for diagnosing coronary heart disease are not always accurate and often require a lot of time. The new approach is noninvasive and allows doctors to quickly and accurately determine the presence of disease.

Thermal scanning records the temperature distribution on the surface of an object, and artificial intelligence analyzes the resulting data. 460 people with suspected heart disease were included in the study. Thermal images of their faces were taken before confirmatory studies.

The proposed method turned out to be 13% more effective than traditional diagnostic methods based on evaluation of risk factors and symptoms. Scientists state that the study needs to be further validated in a larger sample of patients.

But the results already look promising. Thermal scanning can be a fast, painless and cost-effective method to diagnose heart disease at an early stage.
