Apple has announced that it will release security updates for iPhones for at least five years after the smartphones go on sale. For example, the iPhone 15 is guaranteed to receive updates until 2028.
This requirement is contained in the British Telecommunications Product Safety Act.
This doesn’t necessarily mean Apple is limiting security updates to five years. Apple devices generally last longer. For example, in 2022 the company released an update for the iPhone 5S, released in 2013.
