The miniseries, based on the autobiographical book by Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, premiered on the platform in 2024.
The plot revolves around the story of a man who is pursued by a woman, Martha. She sends him many letters, calls him, and keeps an eye on him at home and elsewhere. The main role in the project was played by Richard Gadd himself, who wrote a book about the persecution.
According to CNN, Fiona Harvey claims that the character of Martha was created in her image. The character’s behavior has many similarities with Harvey’s life, she has the same job and behavior.
The lawsuit calls some of the events in the series “blatant lies.” For example, that Martha was in prison for persecution, a fact that Harvey also does not admit. The UK resident points out that she sent Gadd only a few letters.
In her lawsuit, the woman accuses both Netflix and Gadd himself of ruining her life and reputation.
The streaming service, in turn, expressed its willingness to defend “Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story,” which, according to the project’s authors, is based on real events.
Gadd himself notes that, overall, the story is told accurately, but some of the details have been changed.
“Emotionally it’s true: I was actively harassed and mistreated,” the comedian said.
