All countries in the world have clearly defined borders that separate them from each other.
But some boundaries deserve closer attention because they are unique in the strength of trends or historical events.
Just such unusual state borders will be discussed in this article.
Short description
1. San Marino and Vatican City
2. Slovakia, Austria and Hungary
3. Spain and Portugal
4. USA and Canada
5. Belgium and the Netherlands
6. Switzerland and France
7. Nepal and China
8. Morocco and Spain
9. Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.
10. North Korea and South Korea.
What many borders decide
1. San Marino and Vatican City

A unique case when two states live entirely within one. In this case, these are San Marino and the Vatican, which are surrounded on all sides by Italy.
San Marino is located in the highlands of Italy and covers an area of just 61 km². In the ranking of the smallest countries, it ranks 4th in the world.
The Vatican is a city-state inside Italy with an area of only 0.49 km². Despite its modest size, the Vatican has influence in many countries where Catholicism is developed.

2. Slovakia, Austria and Hungary
The borders of Slovakia, Austria and Hungary are connected in one field, which with different sides refers to different states.
On the same field there is a triangular table, which also has its own characteristics. Around the table there are three benches, the equipment of which belongs to the same country.
Thus, sitting in one place, you can visit three countries at once.

3. Spain and Portugal
There is nothing unusual on the border between Spain and Portugal, except for the border crossings. Of course, you can cross the border or drive a car, but this is boring.
You can get from Spain to Portugal via zipline. The cable connects the Spanish city of Sanlúcar de Guadiana and the Alcotim Interaction.
The duration of the descent is 720 meters, the maximum speed is 80 km/h. The entertainment costs 18 euros, but in Spain otherwise you will have to walk or drive.

4. USA and Canada
The US-Canada border is 8891 km long, so there are quite interesting prospects here. For example, in a space where there is a forest, the boundaries are a 6-meter gap between the trees.
Of course, not all boundaries look this way. But in those places where the forest is located, there is such a slot.

5. Belgium and the Netherlands

The border between Belgium and the Netherlands is 450 km long and consists of roads and buildings. This mainly happens in the city of Baarle, which actually belongs to Belgium and the Netherlands.
Since both countries belong to the Schengen area, residents of the countries can move between borders without problems, and this restriction is not really affected much. But at the same time, residents of the same city have different citizenships and all related education.

6. Switzerland and France

Hotel Arbez is located between the border of France and Switzerland, in the village of La Cure. An internal border runs through the hotel, separating the table and bed in the honeymoon suite.
The border was founded in 1862. Shortly before the contract was signed, a local resident built a hotel, knowing that it could not be demolished. Two thirds of the building is located in France and one third in Switzerland.
Since then, the owners of the buildings have changed frequently. Now it still operates as a hotel. SARL Arbez Franco Suisse, which uses the buildings, pays taxes in Switzerland and France.

7. Nepal and China
The border between Nepal and China is probably the highest in the world because it runs through the Himalayas, including Everest, the world’s tallest mountain.
In 2015, the China-Nepal Friendship Bridge, located at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level, was designated as a special border crossing point between the two countries.
After the 2015 earthquakes, the bridge had to be demolished. In 2019, a new reinforced concrete bridge 110 meters long opened in its place.

This is the smallest border in the world. The length of Peñon is 400 meters and the width is 100 meters.
There is no civilian population on the peninsula. But a Spanish garrison of 60 soldiers is constantly on duty here.

The borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay meet at the confluence of the Iguazu and Parana rivers. This place is also called the “Triple Frontier”.

10. North Korea and South Korea.
The Korean Demilitarized Zone is the official name of the border between the two countries. It is also probably the most secure border in the world.
Civilians cannot enter the border. Available only to military personnel, UN officials and personnel.
At the borders there is a Joint Security Zone, where international traffic between the two countries sometimes takes place.

What many borders decide
Have you noticed that many of the photos do not have checkpoints? This is partly how the angles for the squad were chosen, but in some cases, especially in Europe, it was not a matter of angle, and at first there was no checkpoint.
Of course they exist, but they are in a certain position. And when the border passes through a house, it is physically impossible to connect full-fledged checkpoints anywhere.
Therefore, in such places, borders are more of a formality. Yes, this is the territory of different states, but for the people who live there there is no difference.
