“There will be no update to the Model Y this year,” Reuters quoted Musk as saying from his personal account.
Last year, Reuters was the first to learn that Tesla was preparing to modernize production of the Model Y with the goal of starting production in 2024, which ultimately did not happen.
The billionaire in his post consoled users by saying that his company continues to constantly improve all the cars it produces and therefore any “car that is 6 months newer will be a little better” than any previous one.
Market experts say Tesla is in no rush to update outdated models because high interest rates have sapped consumers’ appetite for big-ticket items. In addition, competitors in the world’s largest car market, China, are producing cheaper electric car models.
Tesla was forced to cut prices in April after its global vehicle deliveries fell in the first quarter for the first time in almost four years.
