The main challenge with current climate models is that they cannot process information quickly and cost-effectively at small scales such as city size. The new method takes advantage of existing models while reducing computational costs.

Using machine learning, the researchers were able to super-resolve the data, resulting in high-resolution results in a significantly shorter time frame. The new method also requires much less training data, making it more efficient and cost-effective.
