According to Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Vakhrukov, the department is making “specific proposals to colleagues in other departments” to consider the visa-on-arrival mechanism.
“It has already been implemented in many countries. Not for everyone, but for the individual countries that are our targets,” Interfax quotes Vakhrukov.
As part of the change in visa policy, the ban on unilateral visa cancellation should be lifted for some states, says the Deputy Minister.
In addition, the Ministry of Economic Development, together with other ministries, is working on reducing the cost of tourist visas, increasing the period of stay in the country and the validity period of a single electronic visa.
The introduction of multiple-entry visas for foreign tourists for 15 months or two years is being considered. It is also proposed to link changes in visa validity periods to the seasonality of specific countries.
“For example, for China and the Middle East these are different periods when tourism in Russia will be at maximum demand. If it is Chinese New Year, then January-February, for the Middle East: December, July, August,” Vajrukov explained.
