Google released the third beta version of Android 15 this Tuesday (18), which includes all the necessary changes for developers to test the features of the new version of the system. With this new structure, the system reached platform stability in the development schedule.

According to Google, development APIs and operating system actions for applications are in the final version. Therefore, these features can now be analyzed, tested and implemented in applications from third-party developers. Applications targeting the new version of the system can now be submitted to the Google Play store.

With Android 15, Google will continue to provide an ever-evolving environment for new features and technologies. The new system will provide expanded capacity for content creators, as well as improvements in AI functions, better use of new device formats, and improvements in energy consumption, performance, and security.

What’s new in Android 15 Beta 3

The beta 3 build brings only a few subtle changes:

  • Improvement of Credential Manager regarding the use of “passkeys”: Possibility to choose to log in to an application using a password with one touch. If the user mistakenly rejects the prompt, they can choose to use a passkey via other Credential Manager options;
  • WebSQL deprecated in Android WebView: WebSQL has been removed from Chrome. This change will be rolled out to all versions of Android over the next 12 months.

The login prompt using passkeys gains the one-touch interface.

For developers maintaining SDKs, libraries, tools, or game engines, Google recommends that all updates be released as soon as possible to avoid delays for app developers. For the best development experience, the company also recommends the latest version of Android Studio Koala.
