These powerful engines are designed for China’s new heavy-duty launch vehicle Long 10 March, which is currently under development. Long March 10, which has a height of 92.5 meters and a weight of 2,189 tons at takeoff, will have the capacity to launch a spacecraft weighing at least 27 tons to the Moon.

China’s plan for the first crewed Moon landing calls for two launches on March 10 from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center. The first launch will send a lander to the Moon, the second will send a crewed spacecraft. In lunar orbit, both rockets will dock, allowing astronauts to transfer to the lander for landing on the lunar surface. Once the mission is completed, astronauts will return to lunar orbit and eventually to Earth via a lander.
