According to the author of the project, Iman Shakir, a graduate student at the Department of Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry at UrFU, a new adsorbent modified with thiophenols or silicon dioxide showed high efficiency in capturing harmful impurities, reaching over 90%. It has the capacity to retain carcinogens, petroleum products and other hazardous substances, which makes it indispensable for the environmentally friendly operation of car washes.
The use of this adsorbent will significantly reduce freshwater consumption in industry through the reuse of purified water. This is especially important because modern membranes for water purification are expensive and the new PVC material is more affordable and cost-effective.
