Google announced this Monday (24) that the Gemini sidebar is now available in Gmail. Similar to Copilot in Microsoft Edge, this column allows you to quickly consult the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, including requesting interaction based on the content visible on the screen.
The side column powered by Gemini 1.5 Pro can help summarize the content of incoming messages and suggest responses to emails. It also helps you review drafts and answer common questions based on the content in your inbox.
The innovation in Gmail is the same tool found in Docs, Sheets, and Presentations, but applied to the routine of those who need to communicate via email.
The user is free to ask specific questions about received messages and save time when manually reading messages. You can also consult general information (such as the date and time of the next meeting).
According to Google, The new feature is also available in the Gmail mobile application (Android and iOS), thus enabling the assistant’s capabilities from anywhere.
Additionally, in the same announcement, Google mentions that functions like Contextual Smart Reply (“context-based smart replies” in free translation) will be coming to Gmail for mobile devices. However, there are no predictions regarding the release of new features.
Phased distribution
A. New interaction column with Gemini is gradually rolling out in Gmail, as always. For casual users, the new feature can be accessed via a button marked with a star in the top-right corner, while on mobile phones there are contextual buttons such as “Resume this email” in a message.
For corporate environments, New feature only goes live when enabled by admin. Associate users can access this feature only if they have customizations and smart features enabled.
According to the company, the rollout of the new feature will happen in the next few days; three days after the launch of the function, that is, until Thursday (27). The news will be distributed to everyone via mobile phones within 15 days.
