Vladislav Smirnov, a businessman from the Moscow region, who is engaged in retail trade, has filed an application with Rospatent to register the trademark “Sanction”. Under this name, a businessman from Ramenskoye plans to conduct business activities. The Telegram channel “Bureau of Names” drew attention to the unusual application.

The businessman requests to open a list of possibilities for his trademark according to class 35 of the ICGS. Probably, both offline and online stores can be opened under the Sanctions brand.

“The name “Sanction” of the store is, in general, interesting: the forbidden fruit is sweet. Another question is whether Rospatent will approve such creativity,” Vadim Dunaev, creative director of the Names Office and host of the Telegram channel of the same name, was surprised by the businessman’s plans.

According to the expert, the patent office may refuse to register a trademark if the name is a commonly used term or is contrary to the public interest.

“In theory, both criteria can go against sanctions,” says Dunaev.

All services and companies related to moving on a single map

It is difficult to understand from the name whether we are talking about the sale of goods whose import into the Russian Federation is prohibited by these countries from hostile countries, or whether we are talking about “prohibited fruits”, for example, cheese, import. of which from the EU was restricted by law in Russia itself.

But the director of the international trade company Team Seacurs, Raisa Donskaya, believes that the name is quite suitable and can be approved.

“Before there was a “Commission”, now there will be a “Sanction””, says the expert. Donskaya believes that Rospatent will not oppose such a trademark, since it is impossible to suspect violations based on a single word.
