The Central Bank of the Russian Federation will expand the pilot project of the digital ruble from September 1, the First Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia Olga Skorobogatova announced this, TASS reported.

The digital ruble pilot will be extended to 9,000 individuals and 1.2,000 legal entities. In addition, 20 credit institutions will join the program.

Currently, 600 people and 22 organizations are participating in the project. Twelve banks participated in the experiment.

According to the Central Bank, as of March 2024, as part of the pilot, 19 thousand transfers between individuals, around 6 thousand payments and 3.5 thousand transactions under smart contracts were made.
