The company is reported to have completed the design of the brand new Tensor G5 for the upcoming Pixel 10. Unlike previous models, the development of this chip took place without the participation of Samsung.

Tensor G5 will be manufactured using advanced second-generation 3nm process technology (N3E) by TSMC, a leader in mobile processors.

This is a significant change for Google because the company had previously collaborated with Samsung on both the design and manufacturing of processors, starting with the first Tensor, a modified version of the Samsung Exynos 2100.

The decision to move to in-house chip development shows Google’s growing skills in this area and allows the company to spend more time on testing before launching the Pixel 10.

The strategy is reminiscent of Apple, which controls development of both the A-series chips and the iOS operating system.
