Ozon Bank commissions software development for 5 thousand ATMs

However, the company’s materials published on the Kontur.Purchases service at the end of December talk about a larger-scale project. The control software must work with at least 5 thousand ATMs. The conditions for the placement of the devices are not specified, but the prices for services within the framework of software development are given for the period from 2025 to 2026.

The new software solution, the development of which Ozon has commissioned, should work with all common cards of international payment systems, including Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, AmericanExpress and the Russian Mir, according to the company’s material. The software must support PayPass, NFC and process transactions using information obtained by reading QR codes and barcodes.

The software must also be compatible with ATMs manufactured by NCR, Wincor Nixdorf, Diebold, GRG, OKI, Nautilus Hyosung and ATEC. The ATM network will be developed in line with the bank’s new retail strategy.

“In relation to the retail strategy adopted by Ozon Bank, which provides for the saturation of remote channels with payment and service functions, it became necessary to select a solution for self-service devices that allows flexible management of payment recipients, providing customers with clients individual information services, as well as obtaining operational statistics on the use and demand of services,” states Ozon Materials.

The market’s press service confirmed plans to start a pilot project to install its own ATMs, but declined to comment on data on their number.

Half a billion project

Igor Rastorguev, a leading analyst at Amarkets, estimated the average cost of an ATM that Ozon wants to buy at between 0.5 and 3 million rubles. For the installation of at least 1,000 ATMs costing 500,000 rubles, according to the most minimal estimates, 500 million rubles will be needed, the expert believes. In this amount, Rastorguev did not include the cost of software and regular maintenance by specialists, which, according to him, are in short supply in Russia today.

Ozon Bank was founded in 2022. The lending institution offers financial services to buyers and sellers in Ozon. In July 2024, analysts at the Expert RA rating agency reported on the bank’s plans to begin actively expanding its credit operations. According to the financial plan studied by Expert RA, the bank wants to create an infrastructure in 2024 to start actively lending and then “plans to significantly increase the volume of loans.”
