According to AZCentral, the incident occurred on June 19. The driverless car violated traffic rules: it crossed the double solid line and entered the oncoming lane.

When a police officer saw someone driving in the wrong lane, he began to chase the person. Before stopping in the parking lot at the request of the authorities, the car ran a red light. There were no passengers in the vehicle; the officer contacted Waymo customer service.

As Waymo spokesperson Chris Bonelli explained to The Verge, the car “encountered inconsistent traffic signs” that “prevented it from returning to the correct lane.”

The vehicle remained in the oncoming lane for about 30 seconds, Bonelli said. It then attempted to “clear the intersection” and go into the parking lot, resulting in another traffic violation.

“The entire event lasted approximately one minute,” the company spokesperson added.

It is clarified that under Arizona law, fines for robotaxi violations are transferred to the company that owns the taxis. However, according to AZCentral, the operator told a police colleague that they could not issue a ticket on the computer.
