Apple has significantly improved the sound quality of calls made through AirPods.

We all know the situation when you are listening to music on AirPods, a call starts, and the sound quality drops sharply. This problem is typical for all wireless headphones.

This is because Bluetooth can only transmit a limited amount of data, and when a microphone is connected, the sound quality is reduced to allow voice transmission.

Apple appears to have found a way around this limitation. In the latest beta firmware, AirPods Pro headphones play high-quality audio (48,000 kHz) even with the microphone active when connected to a Mac running macOS Sequoia.

It is unclear how Apple managed to achieve this. One theory is that AirPods switch from stereo to mono sound during a call.

For now, this change works when pairing AirPods with a Mac running macOS Sequoia. No one has yet tested the headphones on iPhones running iOS 18. [iMore]
