Taxis are one of the three most popular types of urban transport, but they are inferior to public and private cars. The larger the city, the more often people use taxis: in rural areas the share of customers is 29%, and in megacities (Moscow and St. Petersburg) – 51%.

Yandex.Taxi service became the undisputed leader among apps (79%). Also in the top five are: Maxim (8%), Uber Russia (5%), Vezet (3%), Drivee and Avtoliga (1% each). This is confirmed by the results of a survey conducted by VTsIOM.

The main reason why Russians prefer taxis as an alternative means of transport is their high cost, according to 60% of respondents. Other external barriers include: “long wait and possibility of not arriving” (19%), “dirty, unpleasant inside the car” (4%), “lack of child seats” (less than 1%).

When ordering a taxi, Russians most often pay attention to the cost of the trip (76%). The speed of delivery of a car is important for every second person (56%), the method of payment is important for every third person (32%), and the driver’s qualification is of concern to 28% of respondents.

Speaking of problems while traveling, 66% mention them. Passengers say that the most unpleasant story is when the driver arrived at the wrong place where they called him (29%), or completely cancelled the order without showing up for the call (29%). One in four people surveyed talked about reckless driving, and one in seven noticed a dangerous violation of traffic rules (14%), among 5% of passengers aggressive drivers were encountered.

It also turned out that eight out of ten respondents do not allow themselves the opportunity to start working or even earn extra money as a taxi driver (81%).

We previously told why taxi services have become more expensive in the regions. This scared 35% of Russians, who began to use this type of transport less often.
