It is believed that a fault in the traction control system caused the Evija X to veer sharply. The crash left its carbon fibre body extensively damaged. Race commentator Harry Metcalfe said it was likely due to software issues and not driver error.

The incident came shortly after Lotus demonstrated its speed and capabilities by setting a lap record at the Nürburgring. Fortunately, the driver emerged unharmed from the wreck, but the hypercar sustained significant damage.
